Industrial Advisory Committee (IAC) Meets

The Industrial Advisory Committee for the programs in the School of Engineering Technology met on November 9, 2001. This committee consists of industrial and USM representatives and provides guidance for the future development of our technology programs.
After a warm welcome by the University President Dr. Lucas and the Director of the School Dr. Cade the assembly divided into professionally related groups for detailed discussions of the individual programs. One company was especially interested in providing opportunities for CET/EET co-operative education. More on this later as detail are worked out. Another company reported the use of complete PCs (not just microcontroller boards) embedded in automatic teller machines. Guess which operating system. (Hint: Window 2000) A link to the minutes for the CET/EET IAC forum will be added as soon as it is available.

The Moving Wall

For about a week, November 1 to the 8th, Pride field was the host to the Moving Wall. These monoliths form a near duplicate of the national monument to our Vietnam War casualties. Names are indexed by panel number from a master list. People often leave pictures and other mementos beneath the name of a loved one. These items are collected and tagged according to panel number and some will be displayed in a museum at a later date. Items include such things as pictures, notes, cards, stuffed animals, flowers, and even a six-pack. There was a flyover on November 1 during the opening ceremonies. The three-plane formation included only two airplanes, i.e. the missing-man formation.  Click on the 3rd picture for a video.

Mysterious Fence

Did you notice the temporary fence between Pride field and the Polymer Science building? The fence encircles the construction area for an exercise path; coming soon. I wonder if there is to be a slow lane. Be sure to speak when you pass. If you look carefully at the large version of the picture (click on the thumbnail) you may see small red flags that outline the actual path.
Give up trying to see the layout flags? You can see them with better resolution just west of Tech.

Fall Memories

Early morning in the fall. Here are some pictures to help us remember these wonderful times at USM. If you are more of an evening person, check this sunset. The sunset photo was taken from the west side of Tech looking between the Polymer Science building and the Pain (Payne) Center. It should be obvious where I stood to take the other three. It should also be obvious where I had to park.

Be sure to check back for what is going on in and around the Tech Building. If the current newsletter is not enough be sure to check the archives and take a walk down memory lane.
